Never Ending Short Stories
So yesterday I was in a frenzy trying to get my short story finished. It was the due date, and I didn't feel that it was ready. The first one I started working on, was a write-off (no pun intended). I cut class, and called in at work to cancel my shift. Time was ticking, and I was still not content with what I had for the surreal short story. Dread came over like a fever, but I tried to keep my cool.
But then one of the best things that could happen for me happened. I called into the magazine in British Columbia that is handling the contest, and spoke about how I was planning to not send in the not-so-surreal short story. Nobody who could handle giving me a refund was available, and that lead to me seeing if there was a way I could wait until Monday to send it. The woman on the line then said, "Oh, the contest has been extended to February 13th, anyway."
The dread subsided, but the remedy seemed to be getting egg all over my face. I lost a day of school and a (relatively short) shift for nothing. But at the same time, I got a significant amount of work done, and I now have roughly 2 weeks to get my story or maybe stories right. It's great when things work out like that. Now if I just have the same kind of luck with winning the thing...
See everyone in hell!
